The 412 Food Rescue Challenge
412 Food Rescue’s mission to end food waste and provide meals for people food insecure is inspiring a wave of civic engagement in Pittsburgh. During Inclusive Innovation Week 2017, the City of Pittsburgh partnered up with 412 Food Rescue for a city-wide challenge to rescue 15,000 pounds of food. Mayor Peduto, Chief Valerie-McDonald, City Council and various City Departments, including Public Safety, City Planning, EMS and Public Works participated in the challenge, rescuing and delivering food to Pittsburgh Housing Authority residents across Pittsburgh. When the results were tallied, the City of Pittsburgh as a whole rescued almost double its goal – 27,500 pounds of food.
